Sustainable Catering System
Hosting the Social Enterprise World Forum 2017 in Christchurch, Ākina Foundation designed an event that not only saw people engaging about positive social and environmental impact, but the event itself also achieved it. A robust social procurement process delivered 4500+ lunches sourced from organic local produce and served in fully compostable packaging. Careful management of recycling and composting waste streams helped achieve 81% diversion of waste from landfill.
SIFT funding helped Ākina to deliver this low impact catering system which will become a good practice template for future events.
