Investing in technology for plastic milk bottle recycling meant that a waste stream which China was reluctant to take was able to be processed here in Christchurch.

The provision of a loan from SIFT helped local recycler Comspec purchase a machine that washes and chips up to 500 tonnes a week of High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) plastic milk bottles.  It is one of the first plants of its type in New Zealand and the only one in the South Island.
