Reusable Produce Baskets
Inspired by traditional Maori kete, Kai Baskets have designed a functional and reusable flax basket for fruit and vegetable shopping. The natural material and reusable nature of the baskets make them a sustainable substitute for single use plastic bags used to collect and transport produce while shopping. Kai Baskets also offers work opportunities for groups finding it hard to access the labour market such as at-risk youth, beneficiaries and refugees, to gain valuable skills working alongside traditional weavers.
SIFT funding supported a pilot trial of the idea at Raeward Fresh Tower Junction.
