Life Cycle Analysis of Biosolid Waste Options

Biosolids, otherwise known as sludge, are a mix of human, commercial, hospital and industrial wastes that remain after sewage treatment. The Kaikoura District Council wanted to carefully consider the environmental benefits and risks of possible reuse options for Kaikoura’s biosolids. Although biosolids are carbon rich, they also contain a range of microcontaminants such as heavy metals and pathogens.

SIFT helped fund a Life Cycle Assessment of the different biosolid reuse options for Kaikoura.
